Local team bats to two victories

The Elsburg Eagles are starting to take control of their league campaigns.

The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club had a wonderful weekend with victories in two of their three matches.

The club was pleased to see old players returning to the game, injured players also returning back from injury and new players taking to the field for the club over the weekend.

The Promotion League match away against Kempton Park Cricket Club on Sunday did not go according to Elsburg Eagles’ plan.

Elsburg walked into a very strong Kempton side which has old premier league players and ex-provincial players in the team.

Kempton batted first and set a target of 270 runs for seven wickets in their 50 overs.

The top bowlers for Elsburg were Henko Black with two wickets for 68 runs in nine overs and Qamar Hayat with one wicket for 43 runs in 10 overs.

When it was time for Elsburg to come in and bat the game went all Kempton’s way and Elsburg were bowled out for 73 runs.

The top batsman for Elsburg was Kobus Black with 14 runs.

The club, however, showed good form in their Executive League match against Kempton Park Cricket Club at the Elsburg Eagles Main Oval on Sunday.

It was almost like payback time for the teams.

Kempton batted first and was bowled out for 151 runs in their 50 overs.

The top bowlers for Elsburg were Theuns Herbst with four wickets for 24 runs in 10 overs, Stan Thorpe with three wickets for 31 runs in 10 overs and a superb spell of bowling by Darren van Tonder with no wickets for nine runs in eight overs.
