Tough match is another win for Germiston

Germiston City Football Club are in top form in the SAFA Ekurhuleni SAB League.

Germiston City Football Club took on Ayoba Aces in an away game at KwaThema Stadium last Saturday.

The teams were playing in the SAFA Ekurhuleni SAB League.

Ayoba Aces started off as the better of the two sides posing a frequent threat to the Germiston goal in the first 20 minutes, with the Germiston side looking a bit disorganised and not playing the flowing football that they have shown in the opening games of the season.

Germiston started to come back into the game and started threatening the Aces goal.

A well-played ball down the left flank saw the attack thwarted, but tenacity by Germiston saw them retrieve the ball and cross into the danger area where it was met with a scorching header to register Germiston’s first goal 30 minutes into the first half.

Germiston allowed Aces to come back at them and for the next 12 minutes they soaked up the pressure with rare skirmishes into the Aces’ half.

Germiston held their lead into half-time.

The second half started with Germiston attacking but a long clearance by Aces beat a standing Germiston defence leaving their goalkeeper exposed for the Aces striker to slot home the equaliser five minutes into the half.

Just a few minutes later, Aces received a corner which they took short resulting in a well-placed low cross into the hand of a thankful keeper.

Germiston broke down the right, and a low cross into the area found d’Angelo Kazeem who restored Germiston’s lead.

Kazeem was substituted soon after with Germiston having a good spell.

A short taken corner by Aces allowed them to attack the Germiston goal only to shoot wide.

The match ended 2-1 to Germiston.

The team remain top of the league after six games.
