Calling all cycling enthusiasts to enter the 34th Carnival City Macsteel National Classic taking place on October 28 and 29.

Enter online at www.cycleevents.co.za before October 16.

This ever popular event will follow the same format as last year, starting with a mountain bike race on October 28, followed by the road race on October 29.

The event will be held three weeks before the Telkom 947 Cycle Challenge.

The Carnival City Macsteel National Classic is a Cycling South Africa sanctioned event which attracts thousands of entries every year.

It is also a seeding event for the 2018 Cape Cycle Tour.

Both events start and finish at Carnival City where there is plenty of secure parking, a welcome selection of restaurants and fast food outlets, and activities for children.

The event comprises a 60km and 34km mountain bike race, as well as two short mountain bike races of 12km and 6km and children’s mountain bike races of 3km and 1km.

The customary route for the 103km and 65km road races will remain the same.

The elite and u-23 men, juniors and licensed vets (VA, VB and VC) will race over 125km in the road race.

All races will be timed by RaceTec.

All cyclists, including licensed cyclists, are required to make use of a RaceTec Chip.

Those cyclists who do not have a chip can purchase one with their entry.

Race organisers receive no financial benefit from the event and all proceeds will go to Rotary community projects, the Rotary Foundation, Germiston Wheelers Cycling Club charity projects and the development of amateur cycling in South Africa.

“We are excited to once again support and play host to the Carnival City Macsteel National Classic Cycle Race.

“This is a popular event in the cycling community and it is fantastic to see how support for the race grows each year.

“If you aren’t entering the race, bring your family to Carnival City to watch the cyclists cross the finish line,” said Carnival City’s marketing manager Michelle Smith.
