Enthusiastic runners of all levels of fitness took to the streets of the city on Sunday morning in the Germiston Callies Harriers Fred Morrison Race.
Runners could take on the 21km, 10km or 5km (fun run) races and the race saw 1 900 athletes participate.
The fun run served as a fund-raising initiative for Care Bear Gauteng Place of Safety and R6 470 was raised for the organisation.
The atmosphere was full of fun and camaraderie as serious runners and those just looking for a bit of exercise all tackled the course together.
The race honours Fred Morrison, who is known as the “Father of Callies”, who was a top runner and contemporary of Wally Hayward and Jackie Mekler.
He was chairman of Callies for many years.
Les Black from Germiston Callies Harriers said they were happy with the turnout at the race and the way the event ran.
“Entries increased from last year’s race so it is good to see that improvement,” he said.
