Germiston under Kempton’s spell

Germiston City Football Club loses three weekend games.

It was an unfortunate weekend for Germiston City Football Club’s teams.

The club’s first and reserve sides played home matches against Kempton Park Football Club while the third team played an away match in Edenvale against Boksburg Football Club, on Saturday.

The first team’s match was a one-sided affair with Kempton netting two goals early in the ELFA Super League fixture.

“Kempton managed to score two goals within a few minutes of the first half,” said Germiston City FC’s first team coach, Sreten Pavlovic.

“The goals rattled the boys but they had to keep focus and ensure no more goals were scored.

“They formed a good defence line and ensured the score remained 2-0 till half-time.”

It appeared the local team went back to the drawing board as Germiston scored a goal early in the second half.

Although Germiston looked stronger, they failed to score more goals.

“We had a few close opportunities but couldn’t capitalise on them and therefore, we got punished by Kempton with a goal minutes before the end of the match,” said Pavlovic.

“We were down a few players as some were playing in the SAB Castle League, but overall, I was happy with the team’s performance.”

The first team lost 3-1 to Kempton.

The story was no different for the reserve side as they also conceded two goals two minutes into the first half.

“The two goals so early in the match, took us by surprise and affected the boys’ performance in the first half,” said the reserve side coach, Toni Kazeem.

“The score remained 2-0 till half-time.”

Germiston tried to redeem themselves in the second half and managed to score a goal.

Failure to net more goals resulted in Kempton winning the match 2-1.

Germiston’s third division lost 2-1 to Boksburg Football Club.

Germiston’s first and reserve sides have two more games to play in the league, which includes an away game this Saturday against Corinthians Football Club.
