Luso loses quarter-finals

The fiercely contested fixture was held at Hattingh Park.

The Super League Cup saw Luso Africa Football Club take on Randburg Football Club in the quarter-finals at Hattingh Park, last Saturday.

In what was anticipated to be a very tight match, Luso looked to take control of the game early on and certainly seemed the better of the two teams.

Luso were strong in defence, allowing very little space to the opposition and always looked like they could score when they went forward.

In a half with few chances and lots of energy, the teams went into half-time at 0-0.

Derby teams give spectators a display of talent

The second half saw the same from Luso, dominating possession and displaying some impressive passes to keep Randburg out of the game.

The Randburg ’keeper was forced into making a few good saves and Paul Raposa did the same for Luso at the other end.

Luso failed to take the lead and the game went into extra time.

During extra time it could be seen that the legs were getting tired and neither team really looked like they were going to snatch the victory.

A penalty shoot-out was to decide the match – Marco Cabeleira and Michael Edwards scored for Luso but it wasn’t to be as Luso lost 4-2 on penalties.

Luso travels to Randburg on Saturday in the league, where they will be hoping for a win.
