Simmer heads for the finals

Two of Germiston Simmer Rugby Club’s teams have made it to the finals.

Germiston Simmer Rugby Club’s first team dominated in the semi-final game of the Pirates Grand Challenge Bailey Cup played against Diggers Rugby Club, on Saturday.

The match was held at the Marks Park Sports Club which saw Simmer walk away victorious with a 38-10 score.

Simmer, with a lighter pack of forwards, had a hard time in the scrums but dominated the line-outs.

The back line was just a class too good for Diggers. With the most ball possession Simmer looked very good on attack.

The local side didn’t give Diggers the slightest opportunity or chance at a win. The game went into half-time with a 25-5 score in favour of the local team.

Even with the upper hand, Simmer kept pushing in the second half and scored their way into the finals.

The team will face Alberton in the finals to be played this Saturday. Of course coach Maree Bester hopes the team will take their good form into the finals.

The venue for the finals is not yet confirmed.

Simmer’s u-19 team, now also in the finals following the withdrawal of Harlequins Rugby Club, will also face Alberton.

The u-20 team suffered an unfortunate 42-14 loss to a good Alberton side during the match that was held at the Germiston Stadium on Saturday.

The local club’s reserves also lost 42-18 to Johannesburg Police.
