Local racer revs his way to the top

Malvern East drag racer had a great start in the first two rounds of the South African National Drag Racing Championship.

The first and second rounds of the South African National Drag Racing Championship are done and dusted.

Malvern East resident and local superbike racer Peter de la Rey was among those witnessed in action at the championships held at the Aldo Scribante Race Circuit, in Port Elizabeth, recently.

“It was a very good meeting, I had a great start and saw myself in first place in the first round,” said de la Rey.

“I went two positions down in the second round and placed third, but I am not complaining, I am happy with my results.”

De la Rey was happy with the performance of his 2015 S1000 RR BMW Superbike 200 horsepower.

“I raced well with my bike, it was very smooth,” said de la Rey.

“I am already preparing for the next rounds and have a very good feeling about them.

“The next rounds will be held on September 23 and 24 at the Killarney Raceway, in Cape Town.”

The local racer said he hopes to win the six-round championship.

“The finals will be held in KwaZulu-Natal in November,” said de la Rey.

“I am hoping to win this year’s championships and if I do win, it will be my seventh championship win with BMW.”
