Nurturing equestrian sport for all

Riders throughout Ekurhuleni thoroughly enjoyed the parade at the SANESA Ekurhuleni fourth qualifier.

Equestrian sport is alive and well in Ekurhuleni and SANESA (South African National Equestrian Schools Association) is ensuring children get to ride competitively.

SANESA is a vibrant and dynamic organisation, acknowledged by the South African Equestrian Federation (SAEF) and SASCOC, the Department of Sport and Recreation, the Provincial Sport Council (Gauteng), the Regional Sports’ Council (Ekurhuleni) and the Department of Education.

Gauteng has five regions and each region holds up to four multi-discipline competitions in the first six months of the year, and then the top eight riders with the most accumulated points in each discipline go forward to represent their region at the Gauteng finals in August.

The top 12 riders with the most accumulated points in each discipline will then go forward to represent Gauteng at the annual SANESA National Championships during September/October.

The Ekurhuleni region is strongly supported by over 80 active schools.

The competitions are quite big, boasting over 800 entries over their competing weekends.

Average entries (riders) per class vary between 10 and 30, offering 55 classes per day over two days (110 classes over a weekend).

Everyone who took part in the parade at the fourth SANESA Ekurhuleni qualifier had a great time.

It is not essential for anyone to actually own their own horse or pony to participate in SANESA – many riding school pupils compete with success at the shows on borrowed horses/ponies.

SANESA is striving to ensure that it is an all-inclusive organisation and that anyone who wishes to compete is not disadvantaged in any way.

Recently, the Ekurhuleni region held their first ever school parade at their fourth qualifier.

The parade was supported by numerous schools and riders.

It was a huge success and a great way to end the region’s 2017 season.
