Germiston loses to Alberton rivals

Germiston Football Club’s two teams lost to Alberton FC.

The ELFA Super League saw Germiston City Football Club’s first side go up against Alberton Football Club at the Germiston City Sports Club, on Saturday.

Germiston’s hopes of bagging three points were shattered by the Alberton team who walked away with a 3-1 victory.

Germiston started off right but failure to tame a robust Alberton allowed the visitors to score two goals in the first half.

The local boys seemed to have gone back to the drawing board during half-time as they were more dominant in the second half.

“We had a lot of opportunities, especially in the second half, but, unfortunately, we couldn’t capitalise on them,” said Germiston’s coach, Sreten Pavlovic.

“The boys picked up momentum but lost concentration and conceded another goal.”

One would have thought that a three lead goal would dampen Germiston’s spirits but they kept going strong.

Germiston’s dominance ensured no more goals came from Alberton but, unfortunately, they couldn’t get past Alberton’s defence either.

The local team refused to end the fixture goalless and scored a consolation goal just before the end of the match.

“The boys played fairly well, it wasn’t too bad,” said Pavlovic

“They created a lot of opportunities but couldn’t finish well.

“We have to change our strategy going forward.”

Germiston’s reserve side also played against Alberton’s reserves and lost 4-2.

The next fixture will be played away against Robertsham FC on Saturday.
