Karate club changes name

Karate clubs join heads and form the African Full Contact Karate Organisation (AFCKO) federation.

The Katlehong-based Shorin-Kempo Kaikan Karate Club has changed its name to the African Full Contact Karate Organisation (AFCKO).

The three-year-old club will, as of June, be known as AFCKO Katlehong.

The local club’s head coach, Thulane Sibisi, said the name change is a result of the birth of the AFCKO federation.

“AFCKO is a collaboration of different clubs joining forces and forming the AFCKO federation,” said Sibisi.

“Due to the clubs forming one entity and sharing the same goals, we had to change our name.

“The federation consists of clubs across South Africa and parts of Africa, including Swaziland, Botswana and Zimbabwe.”

Sibisi also said more karate clubs are welcome to be affiliated with the federation.

“We want to expand and grow the federation and, therefore, more clubs are welcome to join,” said Sibisi.

“There is great talent out there that needs the right exposure and platform which is what we aim to do through the federation, among other things.

“We want to take the sport to greater heights and produce disciplined karatekas and individuals in the process.

“We are excited about the new development and hope for the best going forward.”
