Hard fought draw for Luso

It was a hard fought weekend for Luso Africa Football Club’s teams.

  1. The ELFA Super league match between Luso Africa Football Club’s first team and Benoni Northerns Football Club was an interesting one to watch.

The game, held at Hattingh Park on Saturday, ended with a 3-3 score.

Benoni came out firing and Luso had no answers to their attacks.

Benoni was winning the battles throughout the field for the entire first half and being rewarded with better chances.

Their domination saw them go into half-time leading with a 3-0 score.

With Benoni’s lead, the game seemed to be over for Luso.

After stern words from the coaching staff at half-time, Luso came into the second half looking like a completely different team.

The local team managed to keep ball possession and more goal opportunities were created.

The team’s captain, Marco Da Graca, led from the front, scoring the team’s first goal.

Luso was given a penalty which Fulvio Pereira used effectively, scoring the team’s second goal.

Tempers flared as the game got heated by the minute with action from both sides.

Benoni had one of their players sent off for verbally abusing the referee with 10 minutes left of game time.

Luso showed that every minute counts when Leandro de Abreu scored an equaliser after some neat work by Marco Cabeleira.

Luso’s reserve side also played a home game against Benoni’s reserve side.

It was also a draw with a 1-1 scoreboard.

Luso came out playing very well and had a couple of chances, but failure to capitalise on them saw Benoni score the first goal.

Benoni’s goalkeeper was in top form, making great saves.

Half-time seemed to be working for Luso as they came out looking sharp with Benoni’s keeper having to, once again, make a fine save off an individual play by Devon Thompson.

Luso kept pressing and got their reward through Michael Lume.

Luso could have scored a last minute winner but made a great mess and lost it, having to settle for the draw.

Other results,

  • Luso’s SAB team drew 1-1 against Dream Team.
  • Luso’s u-10 team won 3-0 against Alberton Football Club.
  • Luso’s u-11 team won 4-1 against Sporting Football Club.

Luso’s first team will play an away game against Balfour Park on Saturday.
