Tebbutt’s fighter dominates in Fightstar ring

Blood, sweat and tears pay off as young fighter shines in the Fightstar 23 hexagon.

Audiences were treated to an evening of explosive action at Fightstar 23, held earlier this month.

With a fight card filled to the hilt with enthusiastic fighters, each eager to make their mark, the event, at Apache’s Bar and Night Club in Alrode, Alberton, didn’t disappoint.

The event allowed the competing athletes the chance to develop their skills in a quality professional-amateur (Pro-Am) competition environment, as well as offering them the perfect platform to showcase their skills.

For one young Germiston fighter it was his first time in the hexagon.

Brandon Myers, a student at the Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy, in Lambton, only began training for his debut fight two months before the event, and still shone in the ring.

The amateur fighter took on Quinton Jordan in a gruelling bout and was named the winner.

“I am incredibly proud of Myers,” said Kanchu Alex Tebbutt.

“It is the first time he has ever competed in this style of fighting and through blood, sweat and a few tears we were able to get him ready.”

“This shows that Tebbutt’s Academy members can do anything they set their minds to.”

Myers, who was thrilled by the win, admits that Fightstar was different from anything he has ever competed in.

“It is a very different style of fighting, very physical, and the fight was one of the hardest fights I have ever been involved in.

“I was thrilled when I was named the winner,” he said.

Myers, with the help of Tebbutt, will now begin preparing for the next Fightstar tournament in June, as well as preparing for a trip to Cape Town in October for yet another MMA tournament.

“I am really enjoying this style of fighting and am looking forward to competing in future tournaments,” said Myers.

He thanked Tebbutt for all the hours he has put into training him.
