A run in the park for Freedom Day

Runners celebrate Freedom Day with a special parkrun.

In honour of Freedom Day, last Thursday, parkrun South Africa organised a special parkrun.

The fun-filled and informal incentive encouraged participates to compete in more than one parkrun throughout the day, with the day’s first run kicking off at Ebotse Golf and Country Estate, in Benoni.

Before moving to eight other parkruns around Gauteng, namely Springs, Boksburg, Rietvlei, Alberts Farm, Golden Harvest, Midstream, Bryanston and Germiston’s own Victoria Lake parkrun.

All participants were encouraged to wear clothing and memorabilia that celebrated and represented South Africa’s freedom.

Marathon and ultra-marathon legend Bruce Fordyce was one of the runners who went on to complete all nine runs.

The day was a huge success and enjoyed by all involved.
