New rugby season kicks off

The Elsburg Rugby Club celebrated an impressive win in their second match of the new rugby season with a match against the Katlehong Tigers.

As the leaves begin to fall and the evenings start to get chilly, the new rugby season begins.

The Elsburg Rugby Club started its Kestrel League earlier this month (April) and played their first home match, at the Elspark Sports Grounds, on Saturday afternoon.

The club faced the Katlehong Tigers, beating the visitors by 40 points, 52-12.

The team was pleased with its first home performance, scoring a total of nine tries in the match.

The tries were scored by Rudie Wessels, Gerrit Groenewald, Pierre Bezuidenhout, Sharel de Lange, Piet Scheepers, Juan Barnardt, Gordon Berry and Pieter van der Walt.

Elsburg’s next match will be played at the Elspark Sports Grounds, on May 6, and will see the team tackling it out against Vanderbijlpark Rugby Club.
