Germiston end things off on top

Germiston City Cricket Club celebrate a successful season, and look forward to moving up the leagues.

Germiston City Cricket Club travelled to Benoni this weekend for their final match of the season in the Easterns Cricket League’s Saturday Fourth League.

The team faced Benoni Northerns Cricket Club and were hoping for another win to round-off the season.

Their hopes turned into reality when the team won the match by 76 runs.

Germiston won the toss and elected to bat first, knocking up 191, with one wicket in hand in their allotted 35 overs.

The day’s top batsmen were Anton van der Linde, with 41 runs, Kevin Cox, with 27 runs and Donald Cekiso, with 22 runs.

The team then took to the field and were able to bowl out their competition for 115 runs.

Rudi le Roux was commended for yet another brilliant bowling performance taking four wickets for only 22 runs in five overs.

This victory meant that Germiston ended the season on top of the log, and it is hoped that this winning trend will see them promoted to the third league for the next season.

“According to our calculations, without final confirmation from Easterns Cricket Union, it looks like we won the Saturday Fourth League, six league points above the rest,” said David Ungerer, of the Germiston City Cricket Club, proudly.

The club will now look to the new season.

If you would like more information on the club, when Germiston will play their home matches at the Germiston City Sports Grounds in Vimy Ridge Road, in Delville, or the new season call Linton Cox on 082 829 4051 or David Ungerer on 082 885 6351.
