Karatekas go through to nationals

Mark Strydom SA JKA Karate Club members have qualified for nationals.

Local karatekas from Mark Strydom SA JKA Karate Club have qualified to compete at a national competition after their impressive results at the SA JKA Karate Provincial Championships.

The provincial championships were held at the Standard Bank Arena on March 10 and 11.

Some of the karatekasā€™ results, in their respective age groups and categories, were:

  • Andrew Richardt placed first for kata and second for kumite.
  • Tylin Govender placed first for kata.
  • Sophia Inacio placed first for kata and kumite.
  • Isabella Inacio took first place for kumite and second for kata.
  • Dylan Bosnjack came second in kata and kumite.
  • Ethan Govender came second in kumite.
  • Jayden Govender placed second for kata.
  • Mathew Soares placed third for kata and in the top eight for kumite.
  • Alec Bosnjack placed third for kata and kumite.
  • Nathan Govender, Jordan and Jadon de Connick and Kenzo Madureira made top eight for kata.
  • Madureira also got a top eight position for kumite.

The national championships will be held at the Standard Bank Arena on May 20 and 21.
