Mixed results for Eagles

Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club continue their Easterns Cricket League campaign.

The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club had mixed results at their weekend’s fixtures.

The club’s Saturday Second League match ended in victory, as did their Presidents League fixture -but they were unfortunately defeated in their Promotion League match.

The Eagles’ Presidents League match was played at the Scaw Main Oval in Dinwiddie, against Champions Cricket Club, on Sunday.

The home side batted first, taking on the slow and bouncy pitch, and made an impressive 280 runs, all out, in their 40 allotted overs.

The team’s top batsmen were Theuns Herbst, with 83 runs and Cristopher Coetzer, with 45 runs.

The visitors then had their turn at the crease and were all bowled out for 58 runs, giving the Eagles a 222 run victory.

Cristopher Coetzer and Royan Jacobs were both commended for their outstanding bowling during the match.

In the Eagles’ Promotion League match, played at the Boksburg Cricket Club’s home grounds in Boksburg, the team was defeated by 105 runs, their first loss in the second half of the Easterns Cricket League.

The home team won the toss and sent the Eagles in to field first.

Boksburg batted their way to a score of 202 runs, all out in their 50 overs.

The day’s top bowlers were Garreth Hann, with two wickets for 28 runs in five overs, Trent Murray with two wickets for 35 runs in nine overs and Cristiaan du Preez, with two wickets for six runs in two overs.

It was then the Eagles’ turn to bat, but the team only managed to rack up 97 runs, before they were all bowled out.

Trent Murray, with 31 runs, and Billy Millar, with 29 runs, were the top batsmen of the match.

In the Saturday Second League the Eagles hosted the Daveyton Cricket Club at the Scaw Main Oval, in Dinwiddie.

The game was shortened to only 20 overs and the Eagles decided to bat first, making 106 runs in 20 overs.

Sylvester Pretorius was the day’s top batsman, with 38 runs.

The visitors then took to the pitch; however, the Eagles were able to bowl them all out for 75 runs in their 20 overs, giving the Eagles a 30 run victory.

Jeandre Lange and Sylvester Pretorius were commended for their bowling efforts in the match.

This weekend Eagles will take on Midrand Cricket Club in the Saturday Second League, in an away match on Saturday, while the club will face the Wattville Cricket Club in the Promotion League on Sunday at the Scaw Main Oval in Dinwiddie.
