Germiston trumps visitors in Saturday fixture

Another win for the Germiston City Cricket Club in the Saturday Fourth League of the Easterns Cricket League.

The Germiston City Cricket Club trumped visitors Wattville Cricket Club in their Easterns Cricket League’s Saturday Fourth League match, on Saturday.

The match was played at Germiston’s home grounds, the Germiston City Sports Grounds, with the home side winning by a mammoth 225 runs.

Germiston won the toss and elected to bat first, given the unpredictable weather.

The team managed to score 257 runs from their allotted 35 overs.

The day’s top batsmen were Jan Van Wyk, with 81 runs, Jan Aucamp, with 51 runs and Kevin Cox, with 41 runs.

Wattville then took their turn at the crease, where they only managed to make 32 runs before they were all bowled out.

Anton van der Linde was Germiston’s top bowler for the day, with six wickets for only eight runs in five overs – his best bowling results of the season.

“This win was crucial in terms of our net run rate,” said David Ungerer, of the Germiston City Cricket Club.

The team will take on the Midrand Cricket Club, in a home match, on Saturday, with the first ball being bowled at 1.15pm.
