Luso on top of their game

Highs and lows for Luso Africa FC.

It was a successful weekend for Luso Africa FC with its senior side’s first team winning their Top Eight Tournament fixture 2-1, on Saturday.

In preparation for the Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League, which begins in March, the tournament sees the top eight teams from the previous season going head-to-head in a series of friendly matches.

The matches against the Randburg Football Club were played on Luso’s home grounds, at Hattingh Park.

The exciting clash between the first sides saw Leandro de Abreu scoring the first goal minutes into the first half, which was followed by an equalising goal from Randburg heading into half- time.

Luso fought hard for the win with Fulvio Pereira bringing it home for the team before the final whistle.

The reserve team was not as lucky with the visitors trumping the home side 2-1.

Donovan Thompson scored the team’s only goal.

Other results for the week:

  • Luso’s veterans beat Old Bens Football Club 5-3 in their division two match.
  • Luso’s women’s teams played in the ladies league with the A side losing 3-0 against JVW and the B side winning 1-0 against Olympia Italian Football Club.
  • Luso’s SAB team had a successful week, beating XL Experience FC 1-0 (on Friday) and Corinthians FC 2-1 (on Sunday).

These wins place the team top of the SAFA Ekurhuleni SAB League, the team hopes that this will lead to a promotion to the ABC Motsepi League.
