Club ready to roll with the punches

Primrose Open Boxing Academy opens its doors to the public.

It has been many years since Primrose had its own boxing club, and it was this that made Louwrens Ellis decide to open the Primrose Open Boxing Academy.

ā€œI believe there is a need for a boxing club in Primrose,ā€ Ellis told the GCN.

ā€œI previously coached at a club in Boksburg and decided to move from there to open a club here.ā€

The club can be found at 5 Edlaw Street in Symhurst and Ellis hopes it will offer children, and adults, an opportunity to get fit in a healthy and encouraging environment.

ā€œI hope it will keep children off the streets and give them a more productive way to spend their time,ā€ he said.

The small club which officially opened in October last year, already boasts seven graded members and looks forward to growing its membership this year.

ā€œThis year we are going flat out to grow our membership,ā€ Ellis said.

Godfrey Ellis, Wayne Botes and Hansie Schoeman, who are all qualified trainers, assist Ellis with the training which is held on Mondays and Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm.

ā€œWe sometimes train on a Tuesday too but this is circumstance dependent,ā€ explained Ellis.

The club has already begun to compete in tournaments with the young boxers making their mark on the boxing world.

If you would like more information or to get involved in the club call Ellis on 082 650 8591 or Zanelle Nelson 081 254 5020.
