Germiston stays top of the log

Germiston City Cricket Club kicked-off the second leg of the Easterns Cricket League.

The Germiston City Cricket Club kicked-off the second leg of the Easterns Cricket League on January 21, with a match against Actonville Cricket Club in the Saturday Fourth League.

The match was played at Actonville’s home grounds and saw the visitors walking away with the win.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat first, knocking up a total of 139 runs in their 35 overs with one wicket in hand.

Germiston’s top bowlers on the day were Rudi le Roux with four wickets for 18 runs and Kevin Cox with two wickets for 18 runs.

It was then the visitors’ turn at the crease and they had a shaky start, losing four wickets for only 50 runs.

However, great resilience shown by the batsmen, especially David Ungerer with 68 runs not out, meant Germiston was able to turn the match around, winning with 140 runs and three wickets in hand.

This weekend Germiston will face the Tsakane Cricket Club at their home grounds, the Germiston City Sports Grounds, on Saturday in the Saturday Fourth League.
