Bears’ victorious weekend

The Bears Rugby League Club trounced the Knights Rugby Club 50-16 in their weekend match.

The Bears Rugby League Club didn’t waste time getting back into the swing of things as they were seen in action on Saturday.

Bears faced the Knights Rugby Club at the Elsburg Sports Grounds.

Bears won the match 50-16.

The local team received the kick-off and dominated from the beginning with three early tries.

Bears flyhalf Ronald Botes offloaded to Zach van Loggenberg to score the first try.

Knights’ defence couldn’t stop the fast attacking Bears, who continued to dominate, ending the first half with a score 26-12 in favour of the Bears.

The Bears ran away with the game in the second half, scoring more tries and seven conversions.

Playing away, Knights had three tries and one conversion. The game was physical, with big hits from both sides and good ball skills displayed by both teams.

“We enjoyed the game and we had a lot of support,” said club chairman, Andries van der Merwe.

“Thank you to everybody who came, including our sponsors and the Elsburg Union Rugby, for the support.”

Botes was named the man of the match.
