Simmer heads for Pirates Grand Challenge

Join the Germiston Simmer Rugby Club.

Germiston Simmer Rugby Club ended 2016 with a bang.

The last game brought a narrow, but sweet, victory for the team in the Senior Grand Challenge league against the Diggers Rugby Club.

It was the first time since 1992 that the club took home the league trophy.

Simmer will not be defending its title in the Senior Grand Challenge in 2017 as the club has been promoted to the Pirates Grand Challenge.

Promotion has always been a part of the club’s three-year plan, but it has come sooner than expected.

Earlier in the year, the club played in the Golden Lions Club Seven’s tournament where the seniors (first and second teams) reached fourth position and the juniors (u-20) came in sixth.

Simmer was also invited to be part of the 40th birthday celebrations of the Gaborone Rugby Club (Gabs Hogs), in Botswana, and walked away winners of the main event.

At the end of the season, Simmer players, Anton Coetzee, Christopher Khumalo and Dario Bezuidenhout, were included in the Golden Lions sub-union team.

The club commenced with training for the year on Monday (January 9) and will hold training sessions every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6.30pm.

Anybody interested in joining the club is welcome to come along to the practice sessions or call Nardia Carlse on 082 804 1831.
