Germiston end year on a high

Germiston City Cricket Club finish first half of their Easterns Cricket League campaign on a high note.

The Germiston City Cricket Club travelled to Midrand for their final Fourth League match of the first half of the Easterns Cricket League, on Saturday.

The Germiston-dominated match allowed the team to end this part of the season on a high note.

The visitors trumped the Midrand Cricket Club side with eight wickets in hand.

Midrand batted first and were restricted to 144 runs in their 35 overs, with two wickets in hand.

Riaan Lerm took the most wickets of the match, taking three wickets for only 11 runs in seven overs, while David Ungerer took two of the day’s wickets for 27 runs in four overs.

Each of the club’s remaining bowlers managed to nab one wicket each.

Germiston then took to the pitch and managed to meet and beat the target with 145 runs in 23.5 overs with eight wickets in hand.

The day’s top batsmen were Jacques Nel, with 68 runs, Jan Aucamp, with 45 runs and Johan Botha, with 30 runs.

“This was the last game for this part of the season; fixtures for the second half will only be communicated in January.

“Germsiton stand a chance to move up to the Third League based on their performance in this half,” said Ungerer on behalf of the team.

Practice will continue in January.
