Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club’s team ends the year on top of the Presidents League.

Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club batted first in their Promotion League match, against Avion Cricket Club, at the Scaw Main Oval, in Dinwiddie, on Sunday.

Eagles set their score of 85 runs for 10 wickets in their 50 overs.

Avion replied and, with only three wickets down, hit 90 runs, which secured them a seven-wicket win.

The Elsburg Eagles’ other team was simultaneously playing against the Bakerton Cricket Club, in their Presidents League match, at the Elspark Sports Grounds.

Bakerton batted first and made 188 runs for 10 wickets in their 40 overs.

Eagles batted second and scored 189 runs for nine wickets, giving them the victory.

The local club’s top bowlers were Gerhard Herbst, with three wickets for only 23 runs in seven overs, and Royhan Jacobs, also with three wickets for 16 runs in four overs.

Top batsmen were Darren van Tonder, who made 33 runs, and Cristopher Coetzer, who made 29 runs.

“It was a one-wicket win for Elsburg Eagles, and a great way to end the year on top of the Presidents League,” said Martiens Grobler, on behalf of the Eagles.

“Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club management wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

“Practise will start again on January 10, 2017.”
