Bears thump Tuks

Bears Rugby League Club thrashed Tuks Rugby League Club 46-18 in their fixture held at the Elspark Sports Grounds.

Gathering dark clouds and gusting winds didn’t stop the Bears Rugby League Club from hammering Tuks Rugby League Club 46-18 in a fixture held at the Elspark Sports Grounds, last Saturday.

The start of the game saw Tuks kicking-off and the Bears receiving.

The Bears players were very physical from the start, scoring the first try in the early minutes of the match. The club’s captain of the day, Robin Howell, kicked the conversion.

In an intense first half, Bears managed to score four tries, while Tuks retaliated with three tries.

Howell went off the field just before half-time with an injury to his foot, which was later found to be a fracture.

Both teams had great discipline in the first half, conceding minimal penalties. The score, at the end of the first half, was 26-12 in favour of the Bears.

The tables turned in the second half with the Bears kicking-off.

Tuks conceded a lot of penalties due to off-sides and high tackles.

Bears players enjoyed complete control of the match, snatching it completely from a defenceless Tuks, all of which secured a solid win for the local team.

“I thank everyone for coming and supporting us and to the Elsburg Rugby Club for hosting us,” said Howell.

“Thank you to our sponsor from Mahestic Pools, Hennie Stander, for being there.

“I am glad we got the win, the boys deserved it.

“We had training in the rain this past week and worked hard at practise for this game, we expected it to be a bit closer but in the second half the game got away from them.

“We will be preparing for our next match against Broncos, which will be held at the Elspark Sports Grounds on November 19.
