Elsburg Eagles back to winning

The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club had a successful weekend, winning both their Promotion and Presidents League matches.

The Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club shrugged off their previous losses in the Easterns Cricket League and won both their Promotion and Presidents League matches.

The Eagles faced the Etwatwa Cricket Club in Sunday’s Promotion League match, played at the Scaw Main Oval, in Dinwiddie.

The visitors batted first and set a score of 163 runs, all out, in their 50 overs.

The Eaglesx top bowlers for the day were Trent Murray, who took three wickets for 40 runs, in 10 overs, Garreth Hann who also took three wickets, for only 22 runs, in nine overs, and Chase Nieuwenhuizen who claimed three wickets for 35 runs, in 10 overs.

It was then the home team’s turn to bat, and they did not disappoint, making 165 runs in only 30 overs, with eight wickets in hand.

Top batsmen of the day were Billy Millar, who was also named man of the match, with 76 runs (not out), and Kobus Black, with 36 runs.

The club also played in the Presidents’ League on Sunday, with the match against Actonville Cricket Club taking place at the Elsburg Sports Grounds, in Elspark.

The home team took to the field first and were able to hold Actonville to a score of 175, all out.

The Eagles’ top bowlers for the match were Paul Tandy, who took four wickets for only 15 runs, in four overs, and Hanlo Stydom, who took two wickets for 26 runs, in five overs.

The Eagles were able to beat the visitors’ score by five runs in just 21 overs, with eight wickets in hand, giving the home side their second eight-wicket win of the day.

Grant Wilcox, Dewald Coetzer and Darren van Tonder were the day’s top batsmen, scoring 60, 54 and 46 runs respectively.

Tandy was named man of the match for his bowling performance.

“We are proud of all the players who played this weekend.

“Their performances show that with hard work and practise we can achieve the results we want to,” said Martiens Grobler, on behalf of the Eagles.

“A big thank you to Kobus Black, who helped the players prepare over the past week.”

The next matches on the club’s schedule are their Second League match against Bakerton YS Cricket Club, which will be played on Saturday, at the Scaw Main Oval in Dinwiddie, then they play the KwaThema Cricket Club, in their Promotion League match, on Sunday, at the Scaw Main Oval in Dinwiddie and the Thokoza Cricket Club in the Presidents League at the Elsburg Sports Grounds, on Sunday.
