Germiston beat back Springs Old Boys

The Germiston City Cricket Club bowled over the Springs Old Boys Cricket Club in their weekend Easterns Cricket League match.

The Germiston City Cricket Club added another win to their Easterns Cricket League tally when they faced Springs Old Boys on Saturday afternoon.

The teams met in their Fourth League clash at Germiston’s home grounds, the Germiston City Sports Club.

Germiston won the toss and elected to bowl first.

An impressive display on the field restricted the visitors to 104 runs all out in only 26 overs.

Johan Botha was commended on his bowling skill after netting a hat-trick. His final figures were five wickets for only 20 runs in 6.3 overs.

Anton van der Linde also had a stunning contribution of three wickets for only 10 runs in the five overs he bowled. Kevin Cox and Rudi Le Roux took one wicket each.

Germiston’s wicketkeeper, Jan van Wyk, took three brilliant catches behind the stumps.

It was then the home team’s turn to bat.

Germiston got off to a shaky start and were down three wickets for only 25 runs. However, a solid 70-run partnership between Jason Parson (42) and David Ungerer (39) managed to steer Germiston to a seven wicket victory.

Germiston managed to score 105 runs in only 23 overs, with three wickets in hand.

The club will face Geluksdal Cricket Club next in an away match on Saturday afternoon.
