Club’s season ends on a high note

Hard work and dedication was rewarded at the Elsburg Eagles Junior Rugby Club’s prize-giving ceremony.

The Elsburg Eagles Junior Rugby Club held their annual prize-giving ceremony at Hoërskool Elspark’s sports grounds on Saturday.

Family and friends supported the club and attended the ceremony that commenced at 10am.

All the players received certificates and medals.

The season also saw two of the club’s players, Pieter Fick and Tinotenda Simukai, being selected to the Valke’s u-16 team, which took part in the Inter-Provincial Tournament (IPT).

The team beat the Lions in the final and were crowned the champions of the tournament.

Among other achievements, the local club’s u-8 team was awarded the Team of the Year trophy.

“The event was a success and thank you to everyone who contributed towards making the day special for our players,” said the club’s chairman, Tyron Smuts.

“Thank you to the vice-president of the Valke, Deon Brink, for gracing us with his presence.

“Another thank you goes to the parents for all their commitment and support, and to our players for their hard work and dedication throughout the season.

“We also thank the committee for all their hard work and efforts throughout the 2016 season.”

Smuts also told the GCN that the club is grateful to Hoërskool Elspark.

“We thank the school for availing their sports grounds to us for use, we truly appreciate it,” he said.

“After the ceremony, the children enjoyed themselves by playing the various games that were available on the day, which included water slides, a jumping castle, water-balloon games and many more.

“There was lots of happiness and excitement from the children and all who attended the event.”
