Bowling for the rhinos

Great bowlers took part in the Rhino Tournament held at the Delville Germiston Bowling Club from September 16 to 18.

Bowlers gathered at the Delville Germiston Bowling Club, to compete in the Rhino Tournament from September 16 to 18.

“The tournament is a fund-raising event where we raise funds for Rhinos 4 Africa, which is a rhino foundation,” said the local club’s president, Keith Ruddle.

“This is the second year we are hosting this event and the support for both events was amazing.

“We managed to raise R50 000 last year and we are hoping to do better this year.”

Ruddle also said that bowlers from as far as Mpumalanga and Durban competed in the tournament.

“The tournament attracted a lot of good men and women bowlers from across the country,” he said.

“We had 24 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams competing.”

In other news, the club invites more bowlers to join the club.

“We are always looking for new members; we invite those interested to come and meet the committee members with hope of becoming one of us,” explained Ruddle.

“You don’t have to be a bowls expert to join, those interested in learning the sport are also welcome, and we can teach you bowls.

“We hope to see more youngsters join the club.”

The club’s president also said that they are grateful for the metro’s assistance.

“Thank you to the metro, as they helped us get our greens ready and in such an amazing state, because normally they are brown and dead this time of the year,” Ruddle added.
