Germiston duo win category

Richard and Linda Carter from VLC took top spot in the sub grand master age group in the Mixed Doubles Championship.

It was a glorious morning when Canoe Concepts hosted the annual Mixed Doubles Championships race, recently.

The race takes place from The Makery in Henley-on-Klip, to the Danie Maclean Park in Meyerton, a distance of 20km.

Gauteng Canoe Union’s annual prize giving recognises the doubles and single kayak champions annually, as well as the mixed doubles (male/female combination) in a race specifically dedicated to those teams.

While Richard Carter from the Germiston Lake-based club Victoria Lake Canoe Club is an experienced long time river canoeist, it was his wife Linda’s first ever canoe race.

The pair outdid themselves, finishing in one hour and 20 minutes, to claim the first spot in the sub grand master age group.
