Athletes return from Zimbabwe

Shorin-Kempo Kaikan Karate Club members take first place at the Zimbabwe Full Contact Karate Tournament.

Shorin-Kempo Kaikan Karate Club members have returned from competing in Zimbabwe.

“We received an invitation to attend and compete at the Zimbabwe Full Contact Karate Tournament and we selected 25 members to attend the tournament,” said Shorin-Kempo Kaikan Karate Club’s head coach, Thulane Sibisi.

“Due to the lack of funds we only managed to take eight members, including myself, to participate in the tournament that was held at the Chitungwiza Sports Complex on August 6.”

Mathapelo Pule, Mbali Msomi, Tshiamo Maphuphe, Bongani Mkwanazi, Mkhombiseni Manyathi, Keitumetsi Madiba, Princess Madlala and Sibisi all competed in the tournament.

Sibisi also said that the tournament was tough, but they managed to endure it all and the Katlehong club was well represented.

“All our athletes worked hard, but our women performed exceptionally well, with Msomi taking first place in the women’s open division, while Pule also took first place, in the women’s under 65kg,” he added.

“Madlala placed second in the women’s open division and the female best fighter overall trophy.”

Sibisi congratulated every athlete who took part in the tournament.

“We are proud of all the members; a big thank you to the Zimbabwe Karate Federation, as they helped us with food and accommodation,” he said.
