Karate student makes SA team

Albemarle resident Nadia Calore will soon be representing SA at the FSKA World Championship.

Talented youngster Nadia Calore (15) is thrilled with her latest achievement.

The Albemarle resident and pupil at Jeppe High School for Girls was surprised with an early birthday present last Saturday – a special training session at the Mohan Hira Shotokan Karate Centre in Lenasia.

Unbeknown to her, she was being graded and after a gruelling one-and-a-half hours she was awarded her junior black belt.

If that wasn’t enough, Calore was also confirmed as a member of the SA team that will be attending the 18th Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association (FSKA) World Cup Championship in Mumbai (India) from September 22 to 25.

Calore represented SA at last year’s World Championship in Randburg and came away with two medals.

Chief instructor and director Shihan Mohan Hira, who presented Calore with her black belt, is confident she will do even better at this year’s edition and said that she has the “spirit, dedication and determination to go all the way”.
