A draw for Germiston

Germiston City Football Club faced Old Bens FC in the second round of fixtures in the Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League.

In the first game of the second round of fixtures, in the Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League, Germiston City Football Club made the trip to Benoni to take on Old Bens FC.

The game fell into a steady pace with few chances being created by either side.

A missed kick on the dry, bumpy Old Bens home pitch, by centre back Dembi Mayimela, allowed the home side’s striker through, bringing goalkeeper Jose Castel into action with a low left save.

If the first 15 minutes belonged to Germiston, the next 20 belonged to the opposition, with them piling on the pressure and taking every opportunity to break through the Germiston defence.

Despite attempts from both sides the score remained drawn at 0 at the half-time whistle.

Germiston came into the second half full of new life, forcing Old Bens to defend constantly.

However, the home side was able to find their feet and were able to score the first goal of the match 19 minutes into the second half.

Refusing to give in, the Germiston side fought on and, after a terrible mistake by the Old Bens goalkeeper, Lebogang Chokoe was able to pounce and level the score to 1-1.

Both teams were unable to score again and the match ended in a one-all draw.

Germiston’s reserve side were defeated 1-0 by a penalty conceded in the first minute of the second half.

This was a bitter defeat as the last time these two reserve side met they won 6-1.

Germiston will face the Olympia Italian Club in a home match on Saturday, June 25.
