Draw ends Germiston’s home-based losing streak

The weather and the players were cold during Germiston City FC’s clash against Edenvale, on Saturday.

Germiston City FC must be ruing the chances they have missed this season.

This was evident in their Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League game, against Edenvale FC, on Saturday.

The match was a chance for the local team to earn points and climb into the top half of the league.

With a number of players missing from the side that scored their 3-0 win over Corinthians, the previous week, the Germiston side started off as cold as the bleak winter’s day and did not get any warmer throughout the game.

Edenvale were first to score, after a free-kick given away by City goalkeeper Benjie Kaunda for handling the ball outside his area.

After this the side seemed to rally and Germiston got back into the game with a well-taken goal by forward Chiedu Ekwemmuo.

However, in a lacklustre second half, Germiston just did not improve and a penalty, given away by full back Alex Njosa, gave Edenvale the lead for the second time in the game.

With the threat of not finding a home point the entire season, Germiston eventually found the net with minutes to go, with a well-taken shot by Tende Rufai.

The final score of 2-2 saw the home team scraping a draw.

In the Germiston reserve side’s match, their unseated run of five games came to an end with a 1-2 defeat against the Edenvale reserves.

The Germiston third side, playing their first away game in five, had a creditable 1-1 draw against Kempton Park, in their ELFA third league clash in Kempton.
