Local athletes to go cross-country

Central Gauteng Athletics is looking forward to the start of the cross-country season.

Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) is ready for the 2016 cross-country season powered by the MTN Foundation.

The season is due to commence today, Saturday, with the first league meeting taking place at the Kagiso Sports Complex, on the West Rand.

The season is a compilation of eight league meetings, which take place in different regions falling under CGA demarcation, namely, Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg and the West Rand.

The events cater for a large range of age groups, which include children as young as eight years old to the oldest athlete, who is over 75 years.

Over the years, CGA has performed exceptionally well in cross-country and normally sends out a reasonably big team to represent the province at the SA Championships, which will be held in George, on September 10.

Athletes are required to participate in at least four league meetings, as well as the CGA Championships, which will take place at the Boksburg Stadium on August 13, in order for them to make the team.

The CGA is looking forward to a progressive and action-filled season.
