Home win eludes Germiston

The Germiston City Football Club lost their weekend Local Football Association’s (ELFA) super league fixture against Zwide United.

A confident Germiston City Football Club took to the Germiston City Sports Club field on Saturday for their Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) super league fixture against Zwide United from Katlehong.

Everything seemed to be in place for their first home win of the season but sadly this was not to be as they lost 2-4.

Germiston started well and were a goal ahead within the first five minutes of the game with a well taken shot by Chennadu Ekwammuwo.

The side had several tries at the net in the minutes that followed with no success, and a penalty for the visiting side soon tied the score.

A mistake in the Germiston midfield and some slack marking in defense allowed Zwide to go into half time 2-1 up.

The second half saw an inspired home team level the score only three minutes into the half, with a well struck goal from captain Scotty Chando.

However, Germiston lost momentum opening themselves to a relentless attack from Zwide.

The constant pressure on the home side allowed Zwide to score two more goals before the final whistle, leaving the Germiston side still hunting for a home win.

Germiston’s reserve side won their first game of the season when they beat Zwide United’s reserve side 2-1.

The Germiston Third Side trounced Olympia Italian Football Club 9-2, making it the side’s third victory in a row.

They remain unbeaten in the ELFA Division Three season.

The team will face Boksburg FC in a home match on Saturday at 3.30pm.
