Boxer shares his career highlights

Shorne Moorcroft was the guest speaker at the East Rand Veterans Boxing Association’s (ERVBA) monthly meeting.

The  (ERVBA) came together for the club’s monthly meeting, last Thursday.

The members of the club meet at the Primrose Bowling Club the second Thursday of every month.

This month’s guest speaker was former boxer and kick boxer Shorne Moorcroft, who began his boxing career 46 years ago.

“One of my fondest memories was being a sparring partner for Brian Mitchell,” he said.

Moorcroft’s celebrated career saw him win several titles in both boxing and kickboxing.

“The transition from boxing to kickboxing was a smooth and natural one and I am currently a sixth Dan,” he added.

“I fought my last competitive fight in the sport recently and now focus on coaching.”

He has opened a gym in Newlands where he is the head coach.

Moorcroft plans to be involved in the sport for as long as he is fit and able to.

“I do what I do for the love of the sport not the money; if it ever became about the money I would stop,” he said.

The ERVBA’s next meeting will take place on May 12.
