Germiston Stadium played host to the Central Gauteng Masters Championships last Saturday, April 9.
Ansie Hennop, from the Gauteng North Athletics team, competed in the Central Gauteng Masters Athletics Championships women’s 50-54 years weight throw, at a previous event.
The Germiston Stadium was a buzz of activity, last Saturday, when master athletes took to the field for the Central Gauteng Masters Athletics Championships.
Athletes, many of whom are ranked top masters in the world, from the Central Gauteng, Gauteng North, Free State, Central North West, North West North, Vaal Triangle, KZN and South Western districts came together for the championships.
One of the event’s highlights was a new South African record of 49.80 seconds in the women’s 85-year 200m dash, which was set by Christi du Plooy, from the Central Gauteng Athletics team.
Du Plooy also competed in the women’s 85 years 100m dash, winning the race in a time of 21.80 seconds.
Many of the Central Gauteng athletes performed well in their chosen disciplines, some of their results were:
Pam Immelman came first in the women’s 65 years 100m dash with a time of 17.06 seconds.
Neil Retief won the men’s 35 years 100m dash in a time of 11.58 seconds.
Lwandile Makaula won the gold medal in the men’s 34 years and under 100m dash with a time of 11.43 seconds.
Thomas Endrody won the men’s 55 years 100m dash in a time of 12.51 seconds.
Eddy Stern came first in the men’s 75 years 100m dash in a time of 19.27 seconds.
Monty Hacker claimed the first podium position in the men’s 80 years 100m dash in a time of 15.20 seconds.
Pieter Kruger won the men’s 75 years high jump when he cleared 1.3m.
Ian Hacker won the men’s 50 years pole vault with a 2.5m jump.
Maria Combrink came first in the women’s 35-39 years shot put with a 9.04m throw.
Mercia Ferreria won the women’s 65-69 years shot put with a 8.04m throw.
Hettie van Zyl came first in the women’s 40 years hammer throw with a distance of 27.03m.
SARCO champion Tanya Pubalakan competed in the women’s 30-34 years weight throw, at the Central Gauteng Masters Athletics Championships, held at Germiston Stadium in 2016.

Joey Cloete took part in the women’s 55-59 years weight throw, at the Central Gauteng Masters Athletics Championships. Cloete is part of the Gauteng North Athletics team.
Gawie Louw competed in the men’s 55-59 years javelin event, at the Central Gauteng Masters Athletics Championships. Louw belongs to the Gauteng North Athletics team.
