Central Gauteng Masters Championships a success

Germiston Stadium played host to the Central Gauteng Masters Championships last Saturday, April 9.

The Germiston Stadium was a buzz of activity, last Saturday, when master athletes took to the field for the Central Gauteng Masters Athletics Championships.

Athletes, many of whom are ranked top masters in the world, from the Central Gauteng, Gauteng North, Free State, Central North West, North West North, Vaal Triangle, KZN and South Western districts came together for the championships.

One of the event’s highlights was a new South African record of 49.80 seconds in the women’s 85-year 200m dash, which was set by Christi du Plooy, from the Central Gauteng Athletics team.

Du Plooy also competed in the women’s 85 years 100m dash, winning the race in a time of 21.80 seconds.
