Dedication and training pay off for young swimmer

Sunnyridge swimmer excels in the pool.

Sunnyridge resident Alessandro Trevisan (13) is making waves in the swimming arena.

He recently participated in the annual Swimming South Africa (SSA) Level 2 Regional Championships at Ellis Park Swimming Pool.

The event was attended by about 600 swimmers representing more than 60 clubs from the Gauteng, Limpopo and North West provinces, as well as from Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Swaziland.

Trevisan participated in eight individual events, progressing through the heat stages into five finals.

He earned one gold medal, two silver medals and one bronze medal in the 400m, 200m, 100m and 50m freestyle events, respectively.

He also achieved three SSA Level 3 times for the 13-year-old age category, which means he may compete in national level age group events.

Further to this Trevisan was a member of two separate relay teams which competed in freestyle and medley events, collectively earning a further four bronze medals.

Trevisan is a member of the Mandeville Dolphins Swimming Club.

His achievements are the result of many hours of intense training over the last 12 months, in the pool and out.

Some periods involved up to nine training sessions a week, each lasting up to two hours.

Trevisan is looking forward to the new challenges in the next season, which begins in June, and has his sights set on qualifying for, and representing South Africa in, the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and 2022 Durban Commonwealth Games.
