Germiston defeated by visiting Sporting FC

Germiston City Football Club were defeated 5-2 by Sporting Football Club in their Eastern Local Football Association’s (ELFA) Super League match, on Saturday.

The loss was a blow following their 2-0 win over an undefeated Robertsham Football Club, last weekend.

Germiston started the match well on their home grounds, at the Germiston City Sports Club, with two near goal misses by Lebogang Chokoe and Tende Rufai in the opening minutes.

However, as the game progressed, Sporting began to gain a foothold, despite a strong defence by the home side.

A mistake by goalkeeper Benji Kaunda saw Sporting score their first goal.

Germiston’s Tshepo Maiketso evened the score 10 minutes later, with an excellent run down the right wing and a well-placed kick at goal.

Sporting continued their attack in the second half of the match, and a lack in defence from Germiston’s right defender allowed the visitors to score their second goal.

The Germiston defence was left in a shambles and, with no assistance coming from their midfield, Sporting scored another goal, taking a 3-1 lead.

The home side refused to give up and managed to pull the score back to 2-3, but a comeback wasn’t to be as Sporting was able to score another two goals by the final whistle.

Germiston’s reserve side lost 3-1 to the Sporting reserve side after a tough match, while Germiston’s third side won their ELFA Division Three match against Boksburg Football Club 2-0.
