Tebbutt’s comes out tops

Tebbutt’s Academy members walked away with Twenty-four gold medals after their two match tournaments.

Lambton’s Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy had a very successful March.

The academy’s members took part in two different tournaments in March, the first in Vanderbijlpark.

Nine of the Tebbutt’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy members took part in a tournament in Vanderbijlpark, of whom seven walked away with gold medals and two with silver medals.

“It was an excellent tournament filled with tough fights,” said the club’s hanshi, Alex Tebbutt.

Nine of the academy’s members took part in the tournament, of whom seven walked away with gold medals and two with silver medals.

The tournament saw Kase Pretorius take part in his first full-contact fight.

He was narrowly defeated.

Eighteen of the academy’s members then travelled to the South African all-styles karate tournament hosted by shihan Abdul Jogie, at his dojo in Durban, from March 25 to 27.

“The tournament was intimate, with a number of challenging fights,” said Tebbutt.

“One of our younger members, five-year-old James Nicol, took part in the tournament and walked away with the gold medal in weapons, in fight and kata in his age group.”

Seventeen of the fighters won gold medals, with the remaining fighter earning a silver medal.

The academy now looks forward to the grading to be hosted at the dojo in Lambton on April 16.
