CGA team thrilled with turnout at last Saturday's first Provincial Championship meeting.
Marilize Higgins (20), from the West Rand, cleared 1.65m in the high jump at the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Junior Provincial Championships meeting at the Germiston Stadium, last Saturday.
The Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) hosted the Junior Provincial Championships meeting last Saturday, at the Germiston Stadium.
The event saw athletes competing in the sub-youth, youth, junior and u-23 age categories, taking to the field in various athletics disciplines.
“There was a great turnout this past Saturday,” said the organisation’s Mbalenhle Ngema.
“Athletes were determined to perform at their peak to ensure they made the provincial team which will be competing later this month at the National Championships.”
The CGA noted some top performances from Cheswell Johnson, who competed in the 100m sprints and long jump and Pierre Vermaak who competed in the 10 000m.
A number of the Germiston Callies Harriers athletes shone at the meeting, securing podium finishes.
Their results were:
Verushka Woest won the u-15 girls’ 100m sprints in a time of 12.23 seconds and 200m sprints in a time of 25.2 seconds.
Taylor Underhay won the u-17 girls’ 100m sprints in a time of 11.50 seconds.
Julia Lutz came in third in the girls’ u-17 100m sprints in a time of 12.28 and girls’ u-17 200m sprint in a time of 24.7 seconds.
Ethan Geldenhuys came second in the men’s u-19 100m sprints with a time of 10.60.
Lehane Marais came in second in the girls’ u-15 200m sprints in a time of 25.6 seconds and won the girls’ u-15 90m hurdles in a time of 13.52.
Leigh Norton came in third in the women’s u-20 200m sprints in a time of 26.7 seconds.
Shane Lottriet came in second in the boys’ u-15 100m hurdles in a time of 13.85.
Carla Hattingh came in first in the girls’ u-15 hurdles in a time of 46.32 seconds.
Marco Jooste came in first in the men’s 400m hurdles in a time of 56.78 seconds.
Robbie Louw (15), from Boksburg, competed in the javelin at the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Junior Provincial Championships meeting at the Germiston Stadium last Saturday.
Ruan Oosthuizen (16), from Springs, gave his all during the javelin at the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Junior Provincial Championships meeting at the Germiston Stadium last Saturday.
Benoni’s Bryce Barnard (15) competed as a sub-youth in the long jump at the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Junior Provincial Championships meeting at the Germiston Stadium last Saturday.
Germiston Callies Harriers athlete Michayla Holder competed in the girls’ u-15 long jump at the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Junior Provincial Championships meeting at the Germiston Stadium last Saturday. She managed a distance of 4.99m.
