Championships a success

CGA team thrilled with turnout at last Saturday's first Provincial Championship meeting.

The Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) hosted the Junior Provincial Championships meeting last Saturday, at the Germiston Stadium.

The event saw athletes competing in the sub-youth, youth, junior and u-23 age categories, taking to the field in various athletics disciplines.

“There was a great turnout this past Saturday,” said the organisation’s Mbalenhle Ngema.

“Athletes were determined to perform at their peak to ensure they made the provincial team which will be competing later this month at the National Championships.”

The CGA noted some top performances from Cheswell Johnson, who competed in the 100m sprints and long jump and Pierre Vermaak who competed in the 10 000m.

A number of the Germiston Callies Harriers athletes shone at the meeting, securing podium finishes.
