Get ready for Supercharged

It’s time to get your adrenaline pumping with some great boxing action.

Emperors Palace, in association with Golden Gloves, present Supercharged an explosive box and dine evening featuring four action-packed bouts.

The event takes place at the Convention Centre at Emperors Palace, on March 19 from 7.30pm.

One of the title fights of the evening will see Gerdview boxer Grant Fourie defend his SA junior welterweight championship title against Warren Joubert, whom he won the title from last year.

The GCN caught up with Fourie at his training gym, Hammer Gym, in Boksburg, to find out how he was preparing for the fight.

“I have been involved in a 15-week training camp, so I have been very busy with training,” he said.

Fourie trains six days a week.

His training includes three training sessions a day, namely gym, which includes boxing and sparring, road work and strength and conditioning training.

When asked how the 12-round fight differs from others Fourie explained that, “Fitness-wise you have to be at the top of your game.

“A four-round fight for example is very fast where a 12-round fight is more about endurance,” he said.

Having taken on Joubert before, Fourie mentioned that facing an opponent you’ve fought before can be a challenge.

“He is a tough fighter, it’s always hard to fight someone you’ve faced before because they’ve had the time to go back and see what they did wrong in the last fight and change their game plan,” he said.

In the week leading up to the fight Fourie’s tough training schedule will decrease allowing him time to rest before he defends his title.
