Dis-Chem Ride for Sight cycle race results

Cyclists braved the scorching weather to take part in the Dis-Chem Ride for Sight cycle race.

The 28th annual Dis-Chem Ride for Sight cycle event was held in Boksburg, on February 14.

A superb field of almost 5 000 cyclists braved the searing, hot conditions to raise funds to restore the gift of sight to thousands of South Africans affected by genetic retinal conditions.

The race, which is a seeding event for the Cape Town Cycle Tour attracted some of the country’s top cyclists, despite the clash with the South African road champs being held in KwaZulu-Natal.

The 116km event, which carries with it the prestigious Ernest Hunt Trophy, was won by Reynard Butler (team Telkom) in a time of 02:53:55.

Closely following was his teammate, Nolan Hoffman, the defending Cape Town Cycle Tour champ, while third place was taken by Tyler Day, the 2015 Dis-Chem Ride for Sight winner.

The first elite woman home was defending champion Lynette Burger, with a credible time of 03:19:17.

The first junior home was Joshua Lubbe, in a time of 03:01:12, followed by Brendan Havenga and Jason Abbott.

The first junior u-14 male to cross the finish line was Luhandre Ludik, in a time of 01:55:10.
