Brand new drift season starts on a high note

Denis Palm out-drifted his opponents for the top spot in the Silver Cup Eliminations.

It was a very “slideways” affair last Saturday, at The Rock Raceway, with 24 entries at the start to a brand new season of drifting, with the backing of their 2016 sponsor, Cambees Midas.

Germiston resident Denis Palm was determined to kick off his season of drifting on a high note as he claimed top podium spot in the Silver Cup Eliminations.

While Denis may not have qualified in the top 16 for the Gold Cup Eliminations, all was not lost as he out-drifted his opponents in the Silver Cup.

Shaun Lamprecht drifted his old-school Nissan Skyline GTX to second place, during the final battle with Denis Palm in his GTX Skyline.

It was also the first time that both GTX Skylines were paired up to do battle trackside, and it was entertaining to see how both drifters smoked their tyres to the finish line.

Paul van Schalkwyk rounded off the trio of Nissans to take third spot in his Nissan Silvia S14.

Gold Cup podium spots went to Hannes Frans in first place, Pieter Smit in second and Mathew Cooper (16) in third place.

The best round of the Cambees Midas Drift Championships event will be held on April 9, at the Rock Raceway.
