Christelle Grobler excels at athletics meeting

Local school athlete excels in discus and shot put events held in Pretoria.

Christelle Grobler, a resident of Solheim, took part in the Zander Delport athletics meeting that was held on February 5 at Afrikaans Boy’s High School in Pretoria.

Secondary schools that attended the meeting were Waterkloof, Kempton Park, Afrikaans Girl’s and Boy’s High Schools Pretoria, as well as Grey College Bloemfontein.

The young athlete competed in the discus, shot put and 100m sprint events.

Grobler won the u-14 shot put and discus events and rewrote the meeting’s record books in both events.

With a throw of 13,2m in the shot put and a throw of 36,9m in the discus events she managed to break both records.

Despite specialising in the field events she also managed to get a third place on the podium in the 100m sprint event.

She scored over a 1 000 evaluation points in her performances for the discus and shot put events.

After the meeting the young athlete walked away with three trophies for best female shot put and discus athlete, best field athlete and also junior Victrix Ludorum.

The youngster was surprised and honoured as the meeting produced excellent performances and had an abundance of extremely talented athletes who showed off their skills in both track and field.
