Local sports clubs re-open

Don’t let procrastination rob you of getting fit this year. Join a local club of your favourite sport.

Most of the local sports clubs closed towards the end of last year, for the festive season.

Now into the third week of the New Year, most have re-opened and invite everyone interested in joining to do so.

The GCN was able to get hold of some of the local clubs’ practise times and dates.

Tebbutts Mixed Martial Arts Academy re-opened on Monday, January 18.

The club practises every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 6pm to 8pm, and every Saturday, from 6am to 8am, at the Lambton dojo, at 8 Hilton Avenue.

Germiston Callies began their weekly time trials on Tuesday, January 12, and the popular outings will be held every Tuesday, at 6pm.

The trials cover 4km and 8km distances and start at the Germiston Stadium, on Delville Road North.

All runners and walkers are welcome.

Refreshments and spot prizes are available at the ends of the runs.

Germiston Simmer Rugby Club re-opened on Monday, January 11.

They hold practises every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 6.30pm to 8pm, at the Germiston Stadium.

Luso Africa FC’s senior and reserve Super League sides kick-started the year’s events with training at Hattingh Park, on January 10.

More players are welcome to join the club; the teams practise every Tuesday and Thursday, from 7.15pm to 9pm, at Hattingh Park.

“We invite more players to join the teams,” said the manager and assistant coach, George Poulos.

Victoria Lake Canoe Club invites canoeists to their time trials, at the club, from 5.45pm, every Tuesday.

Ekurhuleni Tennis School of Excellence also welcomes new members to join the club, which practises at the Germiston Stadium tennis courts.

The seniors embarked on their first practise of the year on January 16, while the juniors started on January 19.

“Senior practise is every Saturday from 8.30am to 10am, and our juniors train every Tuesday, from 3.30pm to 5pm,” said the head coach, Loyiso Matsha.

Unique Physique Gym invites all bodybuilders, or those interested in bodybuilding, to the gym, at 111A Rietfontein Road, Primrose.

The gym is open seven days a week; Monday to Thursday from 4am to 9pm; Friday from 4am to 8pm; Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 11am.
