Luso start pre-season training

Luso Africa Football Club’s senior and reserve sides get ready for the season with pre-season training.

Luso Africa Football Club’s senior and reserve Super League sides kick-started the year’s events with training at Hattingh Park, on Sunday.

“This was a back-to basics training session, just to dust off the rust,” said the manager and assistant coach, George Poulos.

“Not all the players were present today, as others are only now heading back from holiday.

“We are pleased that there were a few new faces training with us; it is a good sign.”

Among the new faces was the senior sides’ new head coach, Richard Walker.

“We were also introducing the new coach to the players,” explained Poulos.

“Sergio Lopez is our reserve side coach and he was also present, helping Walker with the training.

“We do invite more players to join the teams.

“Our practise times are Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 7.15pm to 9pm.”

The teams train at Hattingh Park.

“We have a pre-season tournament set for February 8, but we are not sure of the venue as yet,” said Poulos.

“It is a top eight tournament, where only the teams who finished the league in the top eight positions compete for a bit of game time before the league starts.

“We don’t have the fixtures yet, but the Super League usually starts in the first week of March.

“We hope to win all the cups and league this year, so we have to work hard at it.”
